Glossary

BLEED/FILL CONNECTION:
A connection in the upper housing for evacuation and fill and as a valve to adjust the fill volume in an assembly.

CLEANOUT RING:
The portion of a diaphragm seal that is attached to the upper housing, clamping the diaphragm in place and allowing removal of the upper housing without loss of the fill fluid.

CONTINUOUS SEAL:
Should the pressure instrument leak or be removed accidentally, the diaphragm will seat against a support surface in the upper housing to prevent leakage of the process fluid.

FLUSH CONNECTION:
Usually a 1/4 NPT connection in the lower housing that facilitates purging of the diaphragm seal process cavity.

LOWER HOUSING:
The portion of the diaphragm seal on the process side of the diaphragm that contains the process media (a wetted part).

MODEL:
The 5 characters that specify the diaphragm configuration and diameter, and process connection type of a PIC diaphragm seal assembly.

NON-REMOVABLE:
Denotes that removal of the upper housing will result in a loss of fill fluid.

NON-WETTED:
Does not come into direct contact with the process media under normal conditions.

REMOVABLE:
Denotes that the upper housing can be removed without loss of the fill fluid.

REPLACEABLE:
Refers to the diaphragm and denotes a non-welded diaphragm.

SERIES:
Designates the diaphragm configuration and diameter of a PIC diaphragm seal assembly.

STYLE:
Refers to the configuration of the diaphragm of a PIC diaphragm seal assembly.

SUPPORT RING:
A metal ring used to support clamping forces on non-metal lower housings. Usually a non-wetted part.

TYPE:
Refers to the process connection of a PIC diaphragm seal assembly. (I.e.: how it attaches to the process line.)

UPPER HOUSING:
The portion of the diaphragm seal on the instrument side of the diaphragm that houses the fill fluid. Usually a non-wetted part.

WETTED:
Comes into direct contact with the process media.
